THE
TOWN OF THE HUGE FORTIFICATIONS

tour to Lucca, one of the best
preserved towns of Italy,
about 30 minutes from Livorno.
Here the outline:
- Private
transfer by minivan or minibus
from the port of Livorno. Our English
speaking operator meets you directly
at the ship in the morning at
your convenience and tours you for
the whole day. The tour leader gives
you an interesting introduction
to the region Tuscany, its
uses, facts and history, while reaching
the place. French, German, Russian,
Spanish and Italian are also possible.
- Our chauffeur drives us on private
car or van for about half hour to
Lucca, where we meet a local official
city guide. She brings us to collect
the bikes and gives us a first introduction
to the history of the town.
- We
go on with a two-hour biking excursion
along the huge city fortifications
with stops on the bastions for pictures
and further explanations. The city
guide diverts also into the downtown
to visit to the monumental places
of Lucca still on bike, like the charming
elliptical Piazza Anfiteatro,
the marble covered Chiesa di San
Michele and the cathedral complex.
- After the biking tour, we enjoy
a typical lunch in a famous
Luccan restaurant with local specialities
and excellent wines. You can taste
some rare specialities of the town
like the delicious zuppa di farro,
a spelt soup with legumes. In the
afternoon you have some free time
for shopping or for a gelato in town.
Lucca has always been a merchant town
and its historical shops are
a major part of its fascination!
- As an alternative to the shopping
in town, the afternoon can be dedicated
to visiting a legendary bridge over
the Serchio river called Ponte
del Diavolo, just 20 minutes outside
of Lucca. Another alternative is a
quick stop at the leaning tower
of Pisa, which is right on the
way back to the ship.

depending on the docking time of the
cruiseship.
