TO TERRICCIOLA
We
arrange a one-day wine tour for
you and your party to two very
charming wine estates in the area
of Terricciola, between Pisa and
Volterra, often called the "New
Chianti" area. Many wines produced
here are being awarded as excellent
supertuscans and the proximity to
the coast (just 30 minutes driving
from this area) gives them special
tones that many wine lovers find fantastic.
Our
wine tour can start directly from
your premises (see transportation
box below for further details) or
from an agreed meeting point: our
English speaking personal tour leader
(also German, Spanish, French,
Italian or Russian available) meets
you and brings you to the wineries.
On the way to there, the tour leader
gives you general and historical
information about the region and
the art of winemaking. It is the
best way for you to discover this
enchanting world, deeply rooted
in the cultural traditions of Tuscany.
The
tour becomes even more interesting
when we start visiting an extraordinarily
panoramic, beautiful and very modern
winery, whose premises are mostly
all underground. The facility has
a wonderful view over its vineyards
and is the starting point of a
nice walk among the vine rows together
with the winemaker. The visit
to the premises continues with the
detailled explanation of the fermentation
area, where the grapes boils inside
several casks just after the harvest.
Following is the visit to other storage
areas where the rest of the aging
process takes place, up to the
most fascinating room in the whole
complex: a large and artistically
decorated barriccaia full of
wooden barrels. The visit is followed
by a unique wine tasting in a very
charming tasting room.
The tour continues with a visit to
a second small winery on top of
a panoramic hill. The second property
is a family-run business making wine
on a smaller scale, yet with the same
success in the best niche markets
of the world. The winemaker himself
shows the transformation of the farmhouse
into a lovely agriturismo before going
through the stages of the production
of wines in the cellar of the estate.
After the visit to the cellar, you
enter a small and welcoming tasting
room where he introduces each of the
5 wines produced there with
all details about any nuances and
tones you might perceive.
In both places some food is provided
to accompany the wine tasting.
It is a snack including focaccia,
cold cuts, olives, bread and pieces
of cheese. Yet, if you prefer to have
a proper lunch we can arrange
it during the visit to the wineries.
