Truffle hunting and olive oil: treasures of Tuscany
Meet the Truffle Hunters
We are fortunate to count among our friends several talented truffle hunters who love sharing their craft and hospitality with our guests. You may meet either Riccardo or Antonio, each a passionate and highly skilled truffle hunter with a deep connection to the land. For them, truffle hunting is not only a job, but a family tradition passed down through generations, rooted in patience, knowledge, and respect for nature.
Truffle Hunting in the Tuscan Woods & truffle-based lunch
Your adventure begins with a walk through the Tuscan woods, accompanied by loyal and well-trained truffle dogs. As you follow them along shaded paths and through oak and poplar trees, you will learn how truffles grow, why this territory is so special, and how the dogs are trained to recognize their intense aroma. Together, you will search for precious black or white truffles, depending on the season. The thrill of the hunt, the quiet of the forest, and the special bond between hunter and dog make this an authentic and unforgettable experience.
After the hunt, you will return to the hunter’s home or workshop to enjoy the fruits of your search. A generous meal will be prepared using the freshest truffles, delicately shaved over each dish.
Lunch becomes a moment of sharing, storytelling, and genuine hospitality that will remain one of the highlights of your journey.
The truffle-hunting experience takes place between Peccioli, Palaia and San Miniato, areas renowned for their exceptional truffle production. Each experience is unique, shaped by the personality and warmth of your host.
Discovering the World of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
But the day does not end there. After your truffle feast, your private guide will take you to a nearby olive mill for an in-depth introduction to the world of high-quality extra virgin olive oil.
Here you will learn how olives are harvested and crashed, how production methods influence flavor, and why timing and temperature are crucial for preserving aromas and health benefits. You will discover how to recognize a truly excellent olive oil through professional tasting techniques, observing color, inhaling the fresh scents of grass and artichoke, and identifying notes of bitterness and pleasant spiciness that indicate quality.
You will also understand the important differences between commercial olive oils and carefully produced extra virgin olive oils. What you will learn you can use for the rest of your life.
A perfect combination of nature, tradition, flavor, and education, an authentic Tuscan experience for all your senses.

Pictures from today!
This is a message we received from a chef who joined us for a private truffle hunting tour with the aim of learning in depth all traditions and habits the Tuscans developed on truffles
Dear Arianna,
I hope this finds you well. First of all, I would like to thank you for all your kindness and professionalism during our visit to the truffle hunting site. We really enjoyed getting to know this interesting and ancient process, as well the guide’s anecdotes and sense of humor.
I’d like to take this opportunity to give you my best wishes for this upcoming festive season.
Once again, thanks!
Sincerely,
Chef David
This is an email we received from Libby and her husband who spent two days with us, including our truffle hunting tour:
We spent two days with Massimo touring a cheese factory, an olive mill and the greatest adventure of all — truffle hunting with a man and his dog. All three experiences were some of the best I’ve had in Italy mainly because Massimo tailors the tours to your individual needs and expectations. He is extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to be with. He explained in detail the processes used in each industry as well as the history of the region. I learned more about truffles and olive oil than I ever knew in the twelve years I’ve been coming to Italy. I highly recommend Massimo, as well as the company Arianna & Friends, for a very special adventure tour in Italy.
This tour includes a walk through the woods on terrain that is not always flat and a few more challenging stretches. If you have any accessibility needs — whether mobility-related, sensory, cognitive, or any other requirements — please let us know in advance and we will do our best to adapt the itinerary for you.
